Awards and Exhibitions CONVENTIONS,
AWARDS AND EXHIBITIONS The
24th Spanish Convention of Fantasy and Science Fiction –
HispaCon and 1st Ibercon took place in Vigo with João
Barreiros and Laura Gallego as Guests of Honour.
The 25th Hispacon and the 7th AznarCon will be in Córdoba
this year. The
Ignotus awards in Vigo in their different categories went to the
following works: Best Spanish

took place from the 10th to the 11th March in the city of
Santander. It was the first gathering of Spanish literary

10th Encounters of Science Fiction were held at Mataró
from the 8th to the 12th March with Ángel Torres Quesada,
Miquel Barceló, Eduardo Gallego, Montserrat Galícia,
Louis Lemkow, Carme Torras, Manel Moreno and José Luis
González as main assistants. The
Manuel de Pedrolo awards went to: Best novella: Horitzó de
successos - Teresa Udina Abelló and Vladimir Hernández

(Spanish Star Trek Convention) took place in Benalmádena
(Málaga) from the 21st October to the 23rd October 2005
with Robert O’Reilly (Gowron in Star Trek TNG and Star Trek Deep
Space Nine) as the Guest of Honour. The 9th Espatrek will be in
Cartagena from the 27th to th 29th October 2006 with Luis Muiño
and Dwight Schultz (Barclay in the Star Trek series, Murdock in
the A-Team). Asturcon
2006 will be in Gijón next July.
Richard Morgan, Rafael Marín, Elia Barceló,
Juan Miguel Aguilera, Javier Negrete, Rodolfo Martínez,
José Antonio Cotrina, Eduardo Vaquerizo and Carlos
Castrosín will be the main assistants. The
1st Science Fiction Literature Encounters of Dos
Hermanas (Sevilla) will be next
26th and 27th May with Javier Negrete, Rafael Marín,
Joaquin Revuelta and José María Carrasco as
main assistants. The
24th International Barcelona Comic Convention, Salón
del Cómic de Barcelona will be from the 8th to the 11th
June 2006. Expocómic 2005 (Madrid International
Comic Convention) had awards to Gary Frank (Supreme Power), Naoki
Urasawa (20th Century Boys), lacarceldepapel.com, Manel
Fontdevila (La Parejita) and Albert Monteys (Carlitos Fax). The
1st Science Fiction Cinema and Literature Encounters
of Valdeavellano de Tera
(Soria) will be the 20th May with Julián Díez, Juan
Miguel Aguilera, César Mallorquí and Eduardo
Vaquerizo. Diving
into the wreck, by Kristine K. Rusch won the UPC Science

Planells, meanwhile ZigZag by José Carlos Somoza is
a new novel from Plaza & Janés. The Dreamers website

Parnaso has brought us Esperando la marea by Joaquín

Albert Sánchez Piñol new novel, Pandora al Congo,
is the second part of the trilogy begun with La pell freda.
The
book is written in Catalan (La Campana) and Castillian (Suma de
letras). Ediciones
Minotauro is having a great success
with El espejo de Salomón, by León Arsenal as
the novel led to a 2nd edition. El espíritu del mago,
by Javier Negrete led to the same edition some days ago meanwhile
La Espada de Fuego, by Negrete too, is leading to a 5th one.
Minotauro also brought Danza de tinieblas by Eduardo
Vaquerizo, Un mundo invisible by Carlos F. Castrosín,
El anacronópete, by Enrique Gaspar, the first novel
about time-machines originally published in 1887, La leyenda
del navegante by Rafael Marín, a very interesting
trilogy originally published by Miraguano in 1992 and the
anthology Franco. Una historia alternativa with short
stories by Negrete, Vaquerizo, Marín, Juan Miguel Aguilera,
Pedro Pablo G. May, David Soriano, José del Valle, Ramón
Muñoz, Santiago Eximeno and the colaboration of Julián

Fantástica published in September 2005 Mundos y
demonios by Juan Miguel Aguilera. This publishers will compile
the stories and novellas awarded with the Ignotus very soon in a
new anthology and are bringing us the second volume of the horror
compilation Paura and new Artifex Tercera

Berenice is compiling in Callejones sin salida all the
science fiction stories by Rodolfo Martínez and in
Laberinto de espejos all the fantasy stories by the same
author. This publishers have brought us a new edition of La
nave by Tomás Salvador, a classical Spanish science
fiction novel is written in 1958.
Laura
Gallego has published in SM the second volume of her
fantasy story with the name Memorias de Idhún II:

Burke had a very interesting interview with Nuria C. Botey

annual Assembly of the AEFCFT (Spanish Association for
Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror) was held on the Hispacon
of Vigo. Among others, decisions were taken to try to upgrade the
Association members and to give the next Hispacon to the city of
Córdoba. Víctor Gallardo will be the new President
from January 2006.

library is now in a new website called Tercera Fundación

Enguídanos Usach (1923-2006), also known as George H.
White, died on the 28 March 2006. He was one of the most important
Spanish science fiction authors, maybe the most important, and
received the Gabriel Award 2003. One of his best works, La
Saga de los Aznar (56 books) received the Award for the
Best European Science Fiction series in Brussels Eurocon’78.
